The course is suitable for law enforcers from a range of different backgrounds, including the police, gendarmes, military police, border guards, customs officials and security personnel. We have tried to cover the whole spectrum of law enforcement activity from basic, everyday encounters with members of the public, victims and offenders to communication with international colleagues for cross-border operations. Whichever area of law enforcement you work in, our aim is to equip you with the language you need to communicate and get the job done.
English for Lazv Enforceinent has been developed for students studying at an A2 (pre-intermediate) to B1 (intermediate) level of English. However, due to the specialized nature of the content, the course may also be of interest even if you have a higher level of general English. The material is particularly suitable for use in the classroom with a teacher, but you can also use the course for self study. Particularly if you are working on your own, you will find the CD-ROM, which accompanies this Student^ Book, a valuable resource. The CD-ROM is designed to help you continue improving your English on your own, away from the classroom: it includes an interactive workbook wliich can be used to improve your listening, reading, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation, to catch up on lessons you may have missed or to revise for tests and exams.
Each unit in English for Law Enforcement covers a major topic and is divided into four modules;
These modules contain information and language for the topic area of each unit.
In these modules the focus is on grammar and structures. More practice is provided on the CD-ROM.
The focus here is on functional language.
In the final module of each unit there is a problem-solving situation for you to work through or a project in which you will need to produce something. This is an opportunity to use the information, grammar and vocabulary from the other modules in the unit.
